NEW MEXICO:Promising young defensive back who will open the season as the new starter at the lobo (free) safety position...played cornerback his first two years, but has the size, strength and athletic ability to be an impact player patrolling the middle of the field...has worked hard to polish his technique and improve his consistency in coverage...coaches love his competitive drive...made tremendous improvement in the weight room and added 12 pounds of muscle in the offseason...set a DB record with a power clean of 343 pounds...also upped his squat to 500 and his bench to 305...will also open preseason camp as the Lobos' top punt returner after backing up senior Thomas Wilson last year...earned a spot on the travel squad midway through his true freshman season...did not see the field, however, and was redshirted in '05...former prep teammates Phillip Harrison (So.), Jerrell Miller (RS-Fr.) and Yousuf Shakir (Jr.) also play for UNM.2006 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Played in all 13 games and saw signifant action as the first cornerback off the bench behind all-MWC honorees DeAndre Wright and Glover Quin...finished with 22 tackles, 2 pass break-ups and a fumble recovery...season-high 6 tackles vs. Missouri...also a big contributor on special teams and was the team's No. 2 punt returner (1 for -2 yards).
