Fourth-year walk-on who came out of nowhere to establish himself as a key member of the defensive front, manning the starting nose tackle spot in 2006...turned in a strong spring and made tremendous improvement in the weight room...benched 325, put up 301 in the power clean and 520 in the squat...added 15 pounds during the offseason, bulking up to 279...was listed as a third string defensive end entering preseason camp last year and was a longshot to even crack the travel squad...joined the team as a walk-on in 2004, but sat out the fall of `05 while he got his academics in order...has two years of eligibility left...dad, Curlin, played running back at West Virginia from 1979-82.

2006 (SOPHOMORE):

Did not play in the season-opener and came off the bench in his first two appearances, but was a fixture in the starting lineup in the final 10 games, anchoring the middle of the defensive line...36 stops on the year, including 2 in the backfield.

`06 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS:

New Mexico Bowl (vs. San Jose State)...Strong all around game...got in on 3 tackles to help the Lobo defense limit the Spartans to 87 yards rushing - nearly 100 under their regular season average - and also had 2 QB hurries...vs. San Diego State...Did a fine job clogging up the running lanes, making 3 tackles (2 solo) to help limit the Aztecs to 104 yards on the ground...vs. TCU...Part of a sensational defensive performance against one of the league's most balanced offenses...notched 3 tackles, helping the Lobos limit the Horned Frogs to just 29 second half rushing yards on 16 attempts (1.8 avg.)...at Colorado State...Excellent effort up front, helping to shut down the Rams' running game (37 yards on 26 carries - 1.4 avg.)...recorded 3 tackles, including 1 for loss in 30 snaps...vs. Utah...Turned in another strong performance at home, recording 5 tackles...notched his first tackle for loss, clogging the hole and sending the RB sprawling backwards with a big hit...vs. Wyoming...Got in on a season-high 6 tackles to help a solid defensive performance...vs. UTEP...Made his first career start and recorded the first 5 tackles of his career in a breakthrough performance...also credited for a QB hurry and helped the Lobos' front-7 shut down the UTEP running game (30 yards, 1.3 avg.)...helped stuff the Miners for no gain on a 4th-and-1 play from the UNM 11 in the 2nd quarter.

A 2004 graduate of Houston-area Klein (Texas) HS...second team all-district performer and a team captain for head coach Stan Labay...had 89 tackles and three sacks as a senior...also lettered in track and basketball, where he was an honorable mention all-district pick.
