The alpine team has been training hard this fall and can't wait to finally get on snow. The team is looking pretty strong and will definitely be a strong contender to be one of the best teams in the country.

The women's team will be among the top teams with last year's number one skier, Malin Hemmingsson, trying to defend her NCAA Slalom title. Furthermore Karin Ohlin and Amy Beresford, who had top results in the past season, will compete for this year's Lobo squad. Senior Lene Kaasa, who has been working hard on her conditioning this fall, and sophomore Jessica Dakers, who has recovered from knee difficulties, will try to break into the top 10 at this year's RMISA competitions.

On the men's side, Christoffer Norell from Sweden joined the team. He is a very promising recruit who has been skiing successfully on the Swedish circuit. Besides Christoffer, five-time individual race winner Tor Fodnesbergene, and sophomore Jon Masdal, who had a couple of top-5s during his freshmen year, will be competing for the top spots at RMISA races. Last but not least, Olivier Lacaille and Gary Beresford are returning athletes who gained a lot of experience last year and will try to challenge the team's top skiers.

As of now, we are still trying to get one more female and one more male skier in for January who will make the team even stronger.

I would also like to give a brief update on former Lobos who have been major contributors to the team's success in recent years. Lars Loseth, last year's Mountain West Conference Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is back in Norway trying to make it onto the National Team and ski at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Alex Mach is still in Albuquerque finishing his degree in Finance. He hasn't decided whether he wants to keep on skiing or use his education to go into the corporate world. Peter Roering is also finishing up his degree and will be looking for a job in his field of study (finance) as soon as he is done in May.
