February 14, 2007 Alpine Team - Head Coach George Brooks The season is starting to come together for our alpine skiers. With a good result at Taos over the week end (winning three of four races Lars GS, Malin and Tor the Sl) we now feel good about NCAA regionals. Lars is top ranked in GS in the conference and Tor 4th Alex 7 and Lars 8 in Sl with Jon also qualified for the NCAA championships. On the women's side Malin is 4th in Sl and 8th in GS and Karin and Amy have also both qualified for the NCAA championships. We will only be taking a small team to regional's four men and three women. We are going in trying to improve our seeding for the NCAA's in mind. The chemistry of the team is good and I believe our athletes still have their best results to come. Even with our early season difficulties we still have a national championship as our goal!! Remember GO LOBOS Nordic Team - Coach Fredrik Landstedt We now have the 2 most important meet of the season left, the Regional Championships in Reno and the NCAA Championships in New Hampshire. Our Women's team has done very well and won the Denver Invitational and they also won the classic race at our home meet in Red River. Polina is ranked 3rd Overall in the Region with a couple of 2nd place finishes. Crystin, Melanie, and Laura are all qualified for the NCAA Championships right now but we have one more meet and anything can happen. On the men's side we have been struggling all year. Casey and Erlend still has a chance to qualify for the NCAA's but they will have to put in their best races of the season at Regionals next week. Today we got fresh snow in ABQ and we will ski intervals on the North golf course this afternoon. Part of the team will go to Chama and race this weekend and the rest will stay in town to prepare for the Reno races. We are doing every thing we can to prepare and hopefully have our best performances coming up. |
