Freshman women's soccer forward Alexis Ball is this week's Qwest Student-Athlete of the Week. Ball, a highly touted freshman from Albuquerque, N.M., scored two game-winning goals last week in both of New Mexico's 1-0 victories over Arizona State and Northern Arizona.

Against ASU, Ball scored in the 25th minute on a cross from junior Krista Peterson. She fired a shot to the far post past a diving Sun Devil keeper. On Sunday, Ball struck in the 49th minute after beating the Lumberjacks' keeper one-on-one to defeat NAU, 1-0. She has scored a goal in four consecutive games and leads UNM in scoring.

Ball has helped guide UNM to its best start since the 1997 season. The Lobos are 6-2-2 overall and will take the week off before hosting Wyoming on Oct. 12 in the conference opener.
