Frequently Asked Questions
What is Planned Giving?
It is any gift or bequest to a qualified charitable organization. It is designed to meet the donor’s personal, family and charitable goals. It is a win-win situation for both the charity and the donor.
Why do Charities need a planned giving program?
A planned giving program is a source of permanent income which can be used to fund programs. This permanent source of income allows our athletic programs to be less dependent on annual dollars from other sources.
A planned giving program allows charities to weather the storm of poor economic times and to avoid depending on shrinking legislative dollars.
What is Title IX?
Title IX is an Educational Amendment that was enacted in 1972. It states, “no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal aid”. This has affected opportunities for women in Elementary, Middle School, High school and Private and Public Colleges. Those institutions that receive federal aid must comply with this important Amendment.
What are the Advantages of Title IX?
Title IX allows females and male athletes to receive equal opportunities in sports. This means there must be more teams to play upon, practice facilities, equipment and scholarships must be equally available to both males and females. These wonderful opportunities provide wonderful skills that will last a life time; confidence, self-esteem and pride are just a few of the benefits that we all obtain through our participation in sport..
Are their any disadvantages to Title IX?
This is a controversial issue. Men’s programs will continue to be affected because enrollment trends, particularly within the college setting, have shifted to being predominantly female. Title IX stipulates that opportunities for males and females must be directly proportional to the amount of females and males enrolled in the institution receiving federal monies. The problem is the athletic departments are already financially restricted, making the creation of new opportunities for women a near impossible task. The reality is, and if this trend continues, male Olympic sports programs may face elimination because their athletic depart is attempting to comply with Title IX. This means educational opportunities could be forever lost!
Is there a solution?
