The 20th-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team is in 10th place after the first round of the NCAA East Regional being played at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga. Complete results and live scoring are available at www.golfstat.com.
The top 8 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships May 20-23 in Albuquerque. UNM enters Friday's second round six strokes from the eighth spot held by Wake Forest.

New Mexico swept Utah Thursday night in a doubleheader held at Lobo Field. The Lobos won game one, 6-2 and run-ruled the Utes, 9-1, in the nightcap. UNM improved to 25-24 overall and has its most win since the 2004 season. The Lobos were led by sophomore Katie Gilmore who went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI in the twinbill. The Utes dropped to 28-25 and 10-8 in the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos moved to 7-11 in league play on Mike Roberts Day.

Junior Bobby Moore was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VI Team today by CoSIDA ... The Lobos head to Las Vegas for a three-game series with UNLV, May 9-11 ... Game times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, all Mountain Time.

University of New Mexico senior Jeremy Johnson and Colorado Sate senior Drew Morano have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Co-Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon. Johnson is the third Lobo to earn the men's award this outdoor season, matching a program record and tying BYU for the most in the MWC this spring.

The first annual Coaches vs. Cancer BasketBALL hosted by the University of New Mexico Vice President for Athletics and men's and women's head basketball coaches netted $97,000 in proceeds for the American Cancer Society last weekend. Held on Saturday, May 3, at the Embassy Suites in Albuquerque, the event included dinner and dancing and was attended by over 200 supporters.

Former University of New Mexico men's basketball guard Ryan Kersten (2006-07) signed a two-year contract with the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League in Australia today. Kersten played last season with the New Zealand Breakers, but will join former NBA players Luke Schenscher (Georgia Tech) and Julius Hodge (N.C. State) with Adelaide this season. more |

The University of New Mexico men's soccer match against the Juarez Indios scheduled for Sunday, April 20, was cancelled and no make-up date was set. The Lobos will play their final spring match against Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids in Denver, Colo., on Wednesday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m. (M.D.T.). UNM is 4-0-1 in spring action this season. more |
