Chris Deal enters his second season with the University of New Mexico Media Relations Department. He was named assistant director of media relations in June of 2006 and is the primary contact for the women's basketball, women's soccer, softball and women's golf programs. His responsibilities include producing media guides, press releases, statistics, filling interview requests and game day management.
Prior to coming to New Mexico, Deal spent the 2005-06 academic year working at the UAB as a media relations assistant. During that time, Deal was the media relations contact for women's soccer and softball, while assisting in the publicity for all Blazer sports.
Deal started his career at Wichita State University, where he spent three years as a student in the media relations department. During his time, Deal served as the main contact for several sports, including men's and women's tennis and cross country. He also served as the secondary contact for the WSU softball team.
While in Wichita, Deal spent two seasons in minor league baseball working the Wichita Wranglers (Double A Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals) of the Texas League. Deal assisted in season ticket sales as well as serving as the media relations coordinator.
A native of Stillwater, Okla., Deal earned his bachelor's degree in Sport Administration from Wichita State University in May of 2004 and is currently pursuing his master's degree in Sport Administration at WSU. Prior to attending WSU, Deal graduated from Northern Oklahoma College in May of 2002 with an associate's degree in Mass Communications.
